GÉNESIS
Genesis is a wide exhibition which summarizes the vast work made by Sebastiao Salgado, the photographer, along the course of his thirty-two trips around the world, looking for unspoilt areas of the planet during the earlier years of this century.
Over two hundred photos in black and white and big size are shown at the Caixaforum center in Madrid.
The exhibition is structured in different sections, each of them related with extensive regions and their own ecosystems, environment or local population.
Enormous icebergs from Antarctica, gigantic colonies of penguins, awe-inspiring landscapes, marine environments or deserts appear apparently intact. Remote tribes, living just as a part of the ecosystem. Human communities out of this time, taking from the Nature only what they need simply to survive.
The result of Salgado’s project has been an overwhelming call to protect that part of Nature which still remains unspoilt and, at the same time if you feel involved, an appeal to reflect about the world that we are making (“building” in a figurative way) and destroying with our way of life.
